Landmarks SGA named lead architectural designers for Happy Retreat Project

Updated: Apr 9

Landmarks SGA is excited to announce that we have been retained by the Friends of Happy Retreat as the and preservation specialists to advance their plans for the historic Happy Retreat estate as part of their “Grand Idea Project.” Constructed in 1780 by Charles Washington, the youngest brother of George Washington, the estate is located on the edge of Charles Town, WV and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site was named a National Treasure in 2016 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Friends of Happy Retreat are working to rehabilitate the estate to become a “cultural community center and heritage tourism destination, a hub for arts festivals, orchestra music celebrations, heritage fairs, teaching and other cultural activities."
