Architecture, Construction Administration, Sustainability & Resiliency

2019-2023

Landmarks SGA, along with Stromberg/Garrigan & Associates and CJL Engineering, were retained by Somerset Trust Company to develop building and site plans for its proposed Hempfield Hub Office. Located just outside of Greensburg, PA, the new office will serve as a launching point for Somerset Trust’s expansion into new markets towards Pittsburgh. The Hempfield Hub is Somerset Trust’s largest new construction project to date and Landmarks’ design sough to incorporate STC’s signature values as a community-oriented institution while also showcasing the bank’s forward-thinking perspective by way of material selection and green design elements.

The new building is on a challenging site that required significant land development packages, easements, variances, and PennDot Highway Occupancy Permits for right-of-way modifications. These early site packages happened while the design of the building was on-going to prevent further delay to the building construction. The building itself is composed of two distinct masses; the two story mass with a basement houses the lobby, tellers, training rooms, and offices, as well as the safe and other specialty equipment. The one-story east extension went through multiple rounds of programming, starting design as a coffee shop, but due to space needs, it became additional offices and a coffee bar/lounge for use by both employees and bank clientele. The dedication to client amenities also extends beyond the envelope of the building with a plaza to the east of the building shaded by a pergola, as well as a balcony and roof patio which Somerset Trust plans to utilize for future events. The roof patio located above the single-story wing of the building is created using an elevated tile system which allows water to pass through the tiles and drain across the roof below to the green roof which surrounds the patio. The green roof tray system covers the both the single-story wing of the building as well as the canopy over the drive-thru lanes on the west side of the building.
