Ligonier Bank Branch

Historic Bank Architectural and Site Design Project

Adaptive Reuse, Construction Administration

2010-2011

Somerset Trust Company is committed to historic preservation and has chosen to locate many of its new branches in walkable downtowns throughout its expanding region. The bank decided that its best option for expanding into the lucrative Ligonier market was to take a strategic urban infill approach by purchasing a double-lot located three blocks from the town’s main square. The site is located in the town’s historic core, so the bank chose to preserve a contextual building which was oddly oriented toward an alleyway. By relocating the building toward Main Street and sensitively building an addition on the rear of the building, the architectural and site design developed by SGA/Landmarks SGA was able to accommodate the modern needs of a bank, including expanding the banking floor and vehicular drive-through in a manner that hid the uses from the Main Street facade. The project received historic review approvals from the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission. Construction was completed in November of 2011.
