Shelter House Renovations

Architecture, Renovations

2021-2023

The City of Pittsburgh, Department of Public Works, Bureau of

Facilities retained Landmarks SGA for architectural, interior design, and

engineering services for the renovation of Olympia Park Shelter House -- also known as “R. Paul Manion Recreation Center.” The team includes Stromberg/Garrigan & Associates for landscape architectural services and CJL Engineering for mechanical/electrical engineering.

The building is located in between the Mt. Washington and Duquesne

Heights neighborhoods and was originally constructed in 1912, the shelter house experienced several changes over the past 100+ years. In 2009, a fire damaged a portion of the building and it has been sitting vacant ever since.

Community meetings took place in 2015 to gather input on how to bring this building back to life so that it can once again be a usable asset for City residents.
